'The X-Files': Gillian Anderson Talks About Returning As Dana Scully

People are definitely looking forward to the upcoming continuation of the hit Fox series 'The X-Files.' Netizens are eager to find out if Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are still up to the task of investigating paranormal cases they used to work on in the 1990s.

Anderson admitted that the long hiatus from playing the skeptical FBI agent has made it difficult to get back in character. The actress spoke to TV Line about returning as Scully.

"It feels like it's been a long time since I've played her," Anderson said. "I can't remember what year the movie was, but it felt like she was further away from me than I'd thought she would be. But I've also worked really hard at putting her entirely to sleep, so that was successful; she's just taken longer to wake up."

The sudden return to the 'X-Files' franchise has been a lot to take in. "[It's] strange to be back here," the actress admitted. "This is a lot of flashbacks, a lot of deja vu, a lot of remembering dynamics - and it's... a thicker substance to wade through than I'd thought."

Anderson did confirm that Scully has evolved since she last appeared on the series. "Anything I say is going to sound like something you're not going to want to watch," the actress said. "But that's not the case."

The 'Hannibal' actress also struggled to find three words to describe the first episode of the new mini-series. She finally settles for the following: "Slow, intense and functional!"

The highly awaited 'X-Files' mini-series will also mark the return on Mitch Pileggi as Mulder and Scully's former FBI supervisor and William B. Davis as the Smoking Man. The series will introduce comedian Joel McHale as internet news report Tad O'Malley.

The truth is still out there. 'The X-Files' will finally return on January 24, 2016.
