YouTube the online video giant announced at this week's Electronic Entertainment Expo, that the company will launch a Twitch-like gaming service, a dedicated site and app for video game fans. YouTube Gaming is expected to start this summer in the US and UK. The well established video site YouTube, is attempting to find its way to gamers.
YouTube, which owned by Google, made an offer to Twitch last year, but lost to Amazon's bid of $970m (£620m).
The Twitch, an Amazon-owned streaming service, allows a gamer to play games and broadcatst them live.
YouTube Gaming product manager, Alan Joyce, stated in the blog of the company: "This summer, we'll launch YouTube Gaming, a brand new app and website to keep you connected to the games, players, and culture that matter to you, with videos, live streams, and the biggest community of gamers on the web-all in one place."
Google announced that the new gaming service is totally separated from the rest of the videos on YouTubeas the 25,000 games on YouTube Gaming, each game will have its own page, in addition to its channels from game publishers and YouTube creators.
Ryan Wyatt - YouTube's global head of gaming content, said: "YouTube Gaming is built from the ground up for gamers, by gamers," "No longer is gaming going to be lost in a sea of content. We're unleashing a brand-new user experience that puts games front and center. That includes live gaming, as well."
YouTube also accounts the new YouTube Gaming is easier for the gamers to do live and competitive gaming. And according to Barbara Macdonald, the product manager, the app includes an improved latency, highlight clipping, and more, all to give Twitch a run for it's money. And there will be no premium subscription options upon launching the new gaming system.
Additional features comprised the high frame rate streaming at 60fps, DVR (digital video recorder) and automatically converting all live-streams into YouTube videos.
