'Jurassic World' Bites Off $204.6 Million At the Weekend Box Office

Indominus Rex and her dinosaur friends proved once and for all that they are on top of the box office food chain.

According to Rentrak, 'Jurassic World' roared into the weekend box office and bit off an astounding $204.6 million in domestic sales. The film also dominated the international box office and brought in another staggering $307.2 million.

This means that 'Jurassic World' has made a grand total of $511.8 million worldwide after only three days in the theaters.

Hollywood analysts have previously made a conservative prediction that the movie will make an estimated $125 million during its opening weekend. Universal Studios also expected the film to make just a little over $100 million during its debut.

The sci-fi horror flick features last year's breakout star Chris Pratt as Owen, a velociraptor trainer at a dinosaur theme park called 'Jurassic World.' When an aggressive genetically-modified hybrid escapes and threatens the park's visitors, Owen must team up with the park's operations manager (Bryce Dallas Howard) to save the humans on the island.

The other summer films aren't doing as well this week.

Although the Melissa McCarthy comedy 'Spy' was the big winner last week, the film only made $16 million during its second weekend. This brings its domestic total to $59.6 million.

'San Andreas' was expected to keep shaking things up, however the Dwayne Johnson disaster movie only managed $11 million over the weekend. The film, which is about a massive earthquake rocking through California, has made a total of $119.3 million after two weeks in the theaters.

Another horror movie scared up some ticket sales this weekend. 'Insidious: Chapter 3' made $7.3 million on its second weekend, pushing the film's domestic total to $37.4 million.

It's definitely not over until the Barden Bellas sing. 'Pitch Perfect 2' continues to pull in the audiences and makes a sweet $6 million on the weekend box office. The comedy musical has now made a grand total of $170.7 million domestically.
