Crystal Pepsi Comeback? After Coke’s 90s Classic Surge Return, PepsiCo Might Be Relaunching Crystal Pepsi

Late last year, following years of Internet campaigning and even a Facebook page dedicated to the endeavor, The Coca Cola Company re-released their cult 90s drink Surge, and it seems like its biggest rival might be trying to top this venture with a Crystal Pepsi comeback.

Recently, rumors have surfaced that the big soda brand could be planning a Crystal Pepsi comeback, after they wrote a public letter to one of the product's biggest and most outspoken fans, competitive eater Kevin Strahle or L.A. Beast - on Twitter, the foodie celebrity said Pepsi had told him he was definitely taking him and his followers into account and they were planning something that would make them all happy.

According to Adage, this message has gone viral and woken hopes for a Crystal Pepsi comeback, as it seems like the cult cola could be returning to the market following Surge's example, after fans of the drink heavily lobbied to Coca-Cola for a return.

The original classic 90s drink ran for only a year at the beginning of the decade in the United States and Canada, from 1992 to 1993, while it was sold for a longer period in Europe - though it's unclear which countries would see the Crystal Pepsi comeback.

As Grubstreet reports, if the Crystal Pepsi comeback is a fact, it would be joined by at least two other beloved and nostalgia drinks from the past, besides Surge: Clearly Canadian and Original New York Seltzer are also coming back to the markets soon, as soft drinks sale plunder in the midst of the obesity epidemic.

According to The Verge, a few yeas back David Novak, the man who created the concept for the drink, spoke about the reason Crystal Pepsi had tanked was because it had been poorly marketed, though it was a great idea - because he didn't make sure the flavor was right.

In any case, these days Novak is the Executive Chairman of Yum! Brands, the Pepsi fast food business behind giants like KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut.

In any case, the world's officially prepared for a Crystal Pepsi comeback now!
