Thor in Ghostbusters! Chris Hemsworth Joins Cast of Planned Reboot

Odin's favourite son is coming to the new Ghostbusters movie. Chris Hemsworth, best known for his role as Norse God Thor in Marvel's megahit Avengers franchise, will star as the receptionist in director Paul Feig's female fronted reboot of the classic 80's movie series.

Feig broke the announcement with a simple tweet he made on his official twitter page earlier today. The Bridesmaids and Spy director posted a picture of Hemsworth with caption: 'our receptionist.' Followed by a hashtag of the series famous tagline '#whoyougonnacall.'

It was announced earlier this year that Feig, who currently has the number one movie in America with the action comedy 'Spy', would be helming the all-female revival of the series. His leading ladies will be Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, whom he worked previously with on Bridesmaids, Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon, and comedienne Leslie Jones.

Keeping with the gender swapping theme of the main cast, Hemsworth will be playing a role the role of the team's receptionist made famous by actress Annie Potts in the original.

Variety is reporting that Hemsworth was approached very early in the casting process about playing the role of the original. However he turned the part down because it was too small. Sony, the film's producer, has since expanded the role to attract and bag the Aussie star.

It's already been a big year for Hemsworth. The latest Avengers film Age of Ultron has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. This year he is still slated to appear in the upcoming reboot of 'Vacation' as well as Academy Award winner Ron Howard's next film 'In the Heart of The Sea.'

Details on the next Ghostbusters film are still scarce. The only concrete information is that it will centre on a new generation of Ghostbusters who just happen to be female. The film is due in theatres July 22, 2016.
