Jon Bernthal Punisher: Former 'The Walking Dead' Star To Play Frank Castle in Marvel's 'Daredevil' [PHOTOS]

Matt Murdock will be getting some help in cleaning up New York City's Hell's Kitchen in the next season of 'Marvel's Daredevil.'

Marvel.com has just announced that former 'The Walking Dead' star Jon Bernthal has signed on to the Netflix series. The actor will be playing vigilante Frank Castle, who is better known as The Punisher.

Jeph Loeb, Head of Television for Marvel, has released a statement about Bernthal's casting.

"Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences," Loeb said. "Castle's appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same."

Bernthal is equally excited about his new role. The 'Wolf of Wall Street' actor tweeted a picture of himself with his dog and a Punisher comic book with the caption, "Thanks for the love yall. Let's get it. Honored."

Several stars were also happy with the casting news. Frank Grillo, who will appear as Crossbones in the upcoming sequel 'Captain America: Civil War,' took to Twitter to congratulate Bernthal as well as Marvel for their excellent decision.

Bernthal had minor roles in TV shows like 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent,' 'CSI: Miami' and 'How I Met Your Mother.' His big break came when he played Shane Walsh in the first and second season of AMC's 'The Walking Dead.' He is currently filming the 2016 action thriller 'The Accountant,' which also stars former Daredevil actor Ben Affleck.

'Marvel's Daredevil' stars Charlie Cox as the visually-impaired superhero who relies on his superhuman senses to navigate Hell's Kitchen. The second season will mark the return of Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Frank Nelson and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.

'Daredevil' returns to Netflix in 2016.
