The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will now investigate and test other pasta, macaronic and noodle brands after the organization banned Maggi noodles because of the many health hazards the product poses to consumers.
According the official statement of the chief executive officer of FSSAI Yudhvir Singh Malik, "We will check all other instant noodles brands as well. Why should we restrict to one brand? We are drawing samples of other noodles brand."
They did not name popular brands in the official statement they have issued but many believe that brands like ITC's Sunfeast Yippee, Unilever's Nissin and Knorr, and Wai Wai will likely be on the list of FSSAI.
According to Malik, the official list of brands that will pass the safety regulation test of FSSAI will be announced on Monday.
The strict food safety policy FSSAI is implementing is creating ripple effects towards the products'ambassadors. He mentioned in his statement that actors and personalities who are representing the brands should be fully aware of what they are promoting. They should learn from the incident that happened to Nestle's Maggi.
Maggi is a brand that originated in Switzerland. It came to existence in 1872, which was produced by Julius Mill. The man became a pioneer of industrial food production in Switzerland with the purpose of improving the life of workers' family.
In 1947, it has been acquired by Nestle and the instant noodles product was mainly distributed in India and Malaysia. In fact, in these regions, the word "Maggi" became synonymous to the word noodles. Nestle had their biggest share in India, that comprises up to 60%.
The Mizoram government has issued the ban order for Maggi products on Friday which affects not just the company but the workers as well. It is uncertain whether additional recalls for other products will be implemented in the coming days following the investigation of the FSSAI.
