Following months of rumors surrounding the supposed transition of Kris Jenner's ex-husband Bruce out of his birth-assigned gender, a few weeks back the former Olympian clearly came out as trans during an interview with Diane Sawyer - but as she officially comes out with her new name on a photo shoot that has gone viral, Caitlyn Jenner's Fox News portrayal has become the subject of controversy.
Earlier this week, the world saw Caitlyn, formerly Bruce, for the first time, as she appeared a Vanity Fair shoot with famous celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz behind the camera - and while many celebrate her braveness, the way other outlets speak about the story, such as Caitlyn Jenner's Fox News coverage, leave much to be desired.
The Huffington Post calls the Caitlyn Jenner Fox News coverage "what transphobia looks like," as the famously right-winged cable news channel made just about every politically incorrect mistake possible when covering Jenner's first outing as Caitlyn, including the incorrect use of male pronouns like "he" and "him" to refer to her.
According to New York Magazine, the Caitlyn Jenner Fox News coverage included one of the network's anchormen calling saying it was just Jenner "dressed as a woman," not acknowledging her chosen gender, while another anchor compared Caitlyn's Vanity Fair cover and the news' ensuing media coverage to Rome's "final days," basically saying her full transition meant the end of American civilization.
Another anchor in the network, Andrea Tantaros, joked that it was probably much more "courageous" for Jenner to come out as a conservative than as a trans person, and Salon agrees citing other Caitlyn Jenner Fox News examples such as some reporters comparing her decision to "mental illness" and saying it was all part of "postmodern freedom."
Following these remarks, many news outlets like the abovementioned ones reported on the highly controversial remarks made during the Caitlyn Jenner Fox News coverage, calling them transphobic.
