GIFs Now Supported on Facebook

Facebook officially announced that they will be supporting Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) posts on its news feed and status messages, as reported by TechCrunch.

For a long time, Facebook has always been so adamant not to change their stand concerning GIFs, with the view that this only results in cluttered news feeds and timelines. However, many social media platforms have already compromised and allowed GIFs on their sites to promote more interaction and add another medium of expression for their users.

Twitter used to be like Facebook which does not support GIF. Later, the company realized that majorty of their users would like to add this format in their tweets.

Those on Facebook were also requesting the same thing. The tech company's answer was including on supporting auto-playing videos in late 2013.

Now, the enterprise is changing its stance and allowing this welcome change on their plaform. A representative officially said that, "We're rolling out support for animated GIFs in News Feed. This is so you can share more fun, expressive things with your friends on Facebook."

However, Facebook reminded its users that not everyone will be able to see or use this feature right away, as it will take time for the update to be rolled out 100%.

Giphy, though not officially supported by Facebook, has already been providing a way for users on the site to view GIFs. Now, the GIFs will automatically play on the news feed once the autoplay settings are enabled.

Facebook has not yet confirmed the limitations of this new feature.

However, this is good news to all the 1.44 billion monthly active users of the top social media platform who have been waiting for this feature to be activated.

Since GIFs are visually richer than photos, users will surely enjoy this new feature that allows them to express themselves more.
