Chick-fil-A has practically divided America over its stance against same-sex marriage, and has rose to fame, or for some, notoriety.
But can't we just appreciate good food for what it is and be happy? That may not be a proper question to ask in this nation.
In the past months, Dan Cathy, owner of Chick-fil-A and a devout Christian, released public statements confirming Chick-fil-A's commitment to the traditional family and affirmed that same-sex marriage was bringing God's judgment on the nation.
"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" said Cathy.
While LGBT communities and civil rights organizations have responded with rage and protests, many Christians and supporters of traditional marriage rose to support Chick-fil-A.
Mike Huckabee of Fox News, a Christian, declared Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day on August 1, when the fashion food chain across the nation was flooded with supporters.
Ideology and political stance aside, food should be enjoyed as food, and good food naturally gather fans. Chick-fil-A has been appreciated as a quality fast food chain, and its recent controversy served to gather even more fans, especially if they are Christians.
While most well-known for its chicken sandwiches, one of the hidden favorites at Chick-fil-A turns out to be its waffle fries, which are fried in pure peanut oil.
“Chick-fil-A waffle fries stand out simply for what they are, waffle fries,” Seth Cardoza, a fast food critic and writer for OrlandoFastFoodcritic.com, told Fox News.
“Most other fast food chains only offer traditional french fries. Chick-fil-A’s fries can be really great, but they have to be hot and fresh.
“Chick-fil-A hasn’t had to change the recipe for their fries, while Wendy’s and Burger King have made drastic changes to their fries over the years,” Cardoza said.
“McDonald’s only problem was switching away from using lard when cooking their fries and still capturing that flavor.”
“People continue to enjoy their fries,” the food critic continued.
“It’s a nice change from the usual, something you can’t get everywhere…. They are meatier, have more substance, and make you feel like you’re eating more.”
The waffle fries are quite special, given that competitors like McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King have traditionally offered them.
The disadvantage of the waffle fries is that they are less crispy than the regular fries
According to Chick-fil-A website, the ingredients of the waffle fries are potatoes, vegetable oil (canola oil, palm oil), disodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate (to promote color retention), dextrose, canola oil (canola oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness and dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent added).
