Nicolas Cage New Movie: After ‘Left Behind’ Fiasco, Teams Up With Paul Schrader Once More

For the past few years, the Academy Award-winning actor and member of the Coppola family (he's Sophia's and Jason Schwartzman's cousin) has had more misses than hits, and it's hard to be excited about whatever Nicolas Cage's new movie might be these days - but the "Leaving Las Vegas" star is working towards changing that!

Arguably, the last time Nicolas Cage's new movie gathered critical acclaim was back in 2002 with the film "Adaptation," where he played a fictional version of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman and his twin - these days, after years of films with poor ratings and memes, the actor tries to take on a new direction.

Cage's IMDb page shows that the "Kick-Ass" actor has a busy schedule for the next couple of years, Nicolas Cage's new movies are currently listed as a total of 9, including sequels to "The Croods" and the "National Treasure" saga, as well as appearing in Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden biopic starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scott Eastwood.

Now, according to AV Club, there's an addition to Nicolas Cage's new movies: "Dog Eat World," a movie adaptation of Eddie Bunker's renowned crime novel, which will see Cage teaming up with frequent collaborator Paul Schrader, who most recently directed the actor in the 2014 flop "Dying of the Light," a film Schrader ultimately disinherited after the studio cut it up and changed it without his permission.

Deadline reports that Nicolas Cage's new movie will be set in the underbelly of the Los Angeles crime world, and it'll be a gritty and contemporary crime thriller that'll follow the story of three ex-cons hired to kidnap someone, though things go awry and get out of control, and they end up running away from the law at all costs.

As Slash Film reports, the original author of the novel, Eddie Bunker, was an ex-con that took a dip in film once in a while, even playing Mr. Blue in Quentin Tarantino's cult classic "Reservoir Dogs."

Production for Nicolas Cage's new movie will begin in October.
