Last Sunday marked the end of an era, when the long-running and multiple award-winning AMC period series "Mad Men" came to an end after seven seasons, and only a couple of days after the world saw its impeccable finale, the first rumors of a spinoff began to surface - will Kiernan Shipka's "Mad Men" return happen?
Over the past few seasons, Kiernan Shipka's "Mad Men" performance has been one of the revelations of the show (The New York Times suggested that, perhaps, the series was actually about the growth of her character, Don Draper's daughter Sally), and there's at least one person involved who wants her to have her own series - her TV dad.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the idea of a Kiernan Shipka's "Mad Men" spinoff came from Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm, who played her father Don in the 7-season run of the acclaimed 60s show about a group of advertising men.
The New York Daily News reports that Hamm's Kiernan Shipka "Mad Men" spinoff suggestion happened as the cast and crew celebrated the series' finale at a Los Angeles event called "Farewell to 'Mad Men,'" when he was asked about the possibility of a new show going back through the lives of these characters - but the actor shrugged off the idea saying he thought it would be "less fulfilling."
However, he didn't mind the thought of his TV daughter getting her own show that saw her grow from Kiernan Shipka's "Mad Men" time.
"We would want to watch Sally grow up. Move through the '70s and turn into a rock star and turn into Joan Jett or something. Ride a motorcycle and kill a guy. Make a bunch of money and then become Oliver Stone in the 80s. Date Kurt Cobain in the 90s," said Hamm, speaking about the possibility. "She's just a touchstone for every generation. Yeah, I'd watch that show. 'Sally Through the Decades.' "
In a recent interview with Deadline, the actress addressed the possibility of a Kiernan Shipka "Mad Men" spinoff with a laugh, saying she was "not saying no" to it - so there might be hope for fans of the show, and particularly of Sally Draper!
