Cate Blanchett Sexuality: ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Actress Hints Bisexual Past Before Husband Andrew Upton

After Meryl Streep, the "Curious Case of Benjamin Button" star is one of the world's most celebrated actresses, having won two Academy Awards for her work- now, as she promotes her newest movie where she plays a lesbian, a recent interview may have shed light on Cate Blanchett's sexuality in the past.

This marks the first time Cate Blanchett's sexuality becomes the subject of news, as, for the better part of her career, the talented performer has been married to Australian playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton, who she wed in 1997 and with whom she has four children, including recently adopted daughter Edith Vivian Patricia.

Now, according to The Guardian, Cate Blanchett's sexuality started making headlines this Wednesday, when an interview about her upcoming film "Carol" shed light on her past relationships with women, as she casually confessed to having dated members of her own sex in the past.

In a recent interview with Variety, the actress was asked whether this was her "first turn as a lesbian," and after smiling she was then asked whether she'd gone through this in film or in her real life, to which she responded that "many times," prompting various Cate Blanchett sexuality headlines.

However, The Independent reports how Blanchett also stated that she "never thought about" making the whole thing into a larger experience ark about her sexuality, basically just going with the flow.

In the film that sees Cate Blanchett's sexuality confession, the two-time Academy Award winner plays a lesbian in the 1950s named Carol who begins a secret relationship with a department store clerk played by Oscar nominee Rooney Mara.

Before Cate Blanchett's sexuality made headlines, a similar interview with pop star Miley Cyrus saw the "Hannah Montana" star confessing that not all her relationships had been heterosexual in the past, just as she was promoting her own charity directed at LGBT youths.
