Known for his hardcore portrayals of humankind and for creating one of the most evil characters in the history of television, it seems that the next venture for the creator of "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" creator takes him in a completely different direction from what he's used to: Vince Gilligan at Disney.
Not too long ago, in a "Better Call Saul" official podcast, Gilligan made news after calling for fans of the original show starring Bryan Cranston to stop throwing pizza pies on the top of the house used as the exterior setting of Walter White's; but now, things get even more unlikely, as news of Vince Gilligan's Disney project comes out.
According to The Verge, Vince Gilligan's Disney project is based on the classic English fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk," about a young boy who trades his family's livelihood, a cow, for a bag full of magic beans that, when planted, ends up creating an enormous tree leading to a giant's home.
It was Deadline that broke the story about Vince Gilligan's Disney collaboration, stating that the project, which goes under the name "Beanstalk," is a revisionist take on the classic story.
Disney seemingly purchased Gilligan's "detailed outline" of the fairy tale but there's still no script, and the former "X-Files" writer has chosen "Breaking Bad" writer Thomas Schnauz to write the screenplay for the project, possibly directing the film later on, though it's still too early to tell.
Considering the background and the fact that the famous company has been taking risks with children's tales such as the recent musical "Into the Woods" (which also included this particular classic tale), it wouldn't be surprising to see that Vince Gilligan's Disney collaboration is much darker in tone that fans of the company's movies are used to.
As Rolling Stone reports, this new Vince Gilligan Disney project would mark his first major film project since writing the Will Smith vehicle "Hancock."
