Florida Keys, passenger overboard has alarmed distress for the whole cruise ship when it was spotted on cameras that a 43-year-old man climbed and went overboard about 9:14 p.m. last Sunday. It is still a big question whether the passenger intentionally jumped or fell near the Florida Keys.
NBC News cited that continuous searches are being done to find the man who fell in the Florida Keys. Passenger overboard victim was reported missing nearly 20 miles off the coast of marathon in the Keys.
Chief Petty Officer Ryan Doss stated that the Coast Guard was already notified about the incident. Since the night of Sunday when the Florida Keys passenger overboard, two Canadian Coast Guard ships, a helicopter and a Coast Guard cutter were helping to find the missing passenger.
"A review of the ship's closed-circuit camera footage observed a 43-year-old male guest from the U.S. climbing over the railing and going overboard from deck 12," Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas cruise ship, a Miami-based cruise line said in its statement.
"The location of the ship at the time the guest went overboard was marked on the ship's Global Positioning System (GPS), and the ship, along with the Coast Guard, conducted a search for the missing guest.''
From the closed-circuit camera footage, it was seen that the 43-year-old American male, Florida Keys passenger overboard from deck 12 by climbing off the railing. Sun-Sentinel claimed that the ship is headed to Port Everglades.
Shawn Weinstock of West Palm Beach, a passenger of the Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas cruise ship had bad feeling about the ship since he boarded. He even called it a "cruise from hell." He stated that since the start of the journey, problems were already there.
As mentioned by WPTV, before the Florida Keys passenger overboard incident, Weinstock revealed that the cruise ship left Port Everglades eight hours late due to a hole that needed to be patched. He also said that there was no ship alarm to signal there was emergency happening.
Most of the passengers of the ship reported they panicked when they were advised to stay on their rooms for at least two hours as the cruise ship crews continuously search for the Florida Keys passenger overboard.
As multiple news reported, the Miami-based cruise line continued to sail and reached its destination, Port Everglades Monday morning. On March 19, the ship left Port Everglades, went to port call to Cozumel, Mexico two days after and returned to Port Everglades on March 23.
On Wednesday last week, a body of a man was found days after a 54-year-old passenger overboard the Carnival Triumph cruise line ship. As reported by USA Today, the man fell off the water into the Gulf of Mexico as seen in their surveillance camera. The remains were sent to U.S. officials for identification.
For the record, the Florida Keys passenger overboard is considered the fourth falling death on a cruise ship for the recent three months. Cameron Shook, 21, fell overboard on March 8 from Carnival Glory cruise ship. Another was Cliford B. Minej, 27, who went overboard on Dec. 21.
