Leonardo DiCaprio Netflix: Oscar Nominee Making More Environment Documentaries With Netflix After ‘Virunga’

It seems like every day there's a new announcement involving the company behind award-winning shows "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black," and now it's Leonardo DiCaprio's Netflix partnering making news, as the Martin Scorsese collaborator teams up with the production company and on-demand streaming website to make a series of documentaries.

It's well known that the "Wolf of Wall Street" actor is very involved with the environment, as he's one of the biggest spokespeople for Green Peace and has even joined forces with Nobel Peace Prize winner and former Vice President Al Gore on the matter; now, it'll be Leonardo DiCaprio's Netflix documentaries doing the talking for him.

According to Reuters (via Fortune Magazine), the on-demand streaming giant announced Leonardo DiCaprio's Netflix documentaries last Thursday, becoming the next of a series of high-profile names to join the major company, including Oscar nominee Edward Norton and even "Saturday Night Live" alum and "30 Rock" creator Tina Fey.

As Deadline reports, the new Leonardo DiCaprio Netflix documentaries would follow the recent critical success of "Virunga," a 2014 project about the conservation work of Virunga Park rangers that had DiCaprio as an executive producer and was distributed by Netflix; after its premiere in the Tribeca Film Festival, the film went on to gather an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature.

The Associated Press reports (via Business Insider), that the new Leonardo DiCaprio Netflix partnering up will see the "Titanic" star's production company, Appian Way, developing documentaries and docuseries that will focus on "environmental and conservation themes," a lifelong passion for the 4-time Academy Award nominee.

"Working with Netflix on Virunga has sparked a shared vision about projects that we want to develop and bring to viewers," said the actor in a statement, according to The Guardian. "There's never been a more critical time for our planet or more of a need for gifted storytellers to help us all make sense of the issues we face. Through this partnership with Netflix, I hope to give documentary filmmakers doing urgent and important work the chance to have their films seen immediately by audiences all around the world."

There are still no release dates for the next Leonardo DiCaprio Netflix projects.
