For a while, it was only a rumor but now it is officially confirmed. Netflix, a giant streaming online officially announced on February 24, 2015 that the long-gestating Pee-wee Herman of Judd Apatow will now be a movie, according to Vulture.com. Titled "Pee-wee Big Holiday", this movie will be produced by Paul Reubens (the man behind the fictional character of Pee-wee Herman) and Judd Apatow. It will be written by Paul Rust and Reubens and will be directed by the first time director John Lee of Broad City.
The production of this movie will begin next month (March) highlighting the directorial debut of John Lee. The film would exclusively premiere on Netflix in all its territories where the streaming service is accessible. In the press release, Apatow said that as an avid fan of Pee-wee Herman since the character initially appeared on The Dating Game, he is thrilled to have the chance to work with a brilliant man like Paul Reubens on this movie. It was a dream came true for him. On the other hand, Pee-wee Herman himself, Paul Reubens is as well very excited for the movie because since four years ago, he and Apatow have been dreaming about it. According to Rollingstone.com, Paul Reubens initially played the character of Pee-wee Herman during the late 1970s. The character indeed became incredibly popular that over the following decade the character was became a guest on TV shows and films. Now, it returns to make everyone happy again.
Last year, somewhere in December, it was rumored that a streaming service rights for the Pee-wee Herman movie has already been acquired but Netflix made it official during a press release on February 24, that they will take charge of its streaming. For the plot teaser, the Pee-wee Herman movie will tell a story about a fateful meeting with a mystifying stranger which inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first holiday ever in this epic story of destiny and friendship.
