Sigourney Weaver Ripley Confirmed: New ‘Alien’ Movie Sees Ripley Return To Nostromo!

Fans of classic science fiction movies are having their best day ever, after it was recently confirmed that Sigourney Weaver's Ripley role, made famous in the very first film of the franchise, will return for the next sequel, which is set to delete the past two movies from the "Alien" universe.

Way back in 1979, Sigourney Weaver's Ripley (full name Ellen Ripley) became one of the biggest names in science fiction, after the feminist icon exploded the spaceship in the original film to kill the eighth passenger of the trip, only for her story to be met with skepticism upon her return to Earth.

The Independent reports that Sigourney Weaver's Ripley, who died in the third movie and was later cloned for the fourth, will definitely be returning for the new movie, which is powered by writer and director Neill Blonkamp (from "District 9"), with whom Weaver worked recently in the science fiction film "Chappie," which also stars Hugh Jackman.

Now, according to CNet, Sigourney Weaver's Ripley will come back to life in the "Alien" universe, in a film that's set to pick up where the second movie left off, completely ignoring what happened in the deeply unpopular sequels "Alien 3" from 1992 and the 1997 "Alien: Resurrection."

Geeks of Doom reports that Sigourney Weaver's Ripley return will also feature the closure of her character, considering the multiple Oscar-nominated actress has been playing the role since the late 70s.

Part reboot and part sequel, the new project has been hailed as a "genetic sibling" to the first two films, universally acclaimed as the best in the long-running franchise, completely disregarding the second half of the series.

Back in January, Geeks of Doom also reported that Blonkamp had released some breathtaking conceptual art for a possible sequel, making fans around the world fall in love with the new look - and now that Sigourney Weaver's Ripley is on board, things have just gotten juicier!
