Retief Goosen Takes the Lead at Riviera

Retieff Goosen will take the two-shot lead into the final round of Northern Trust Open at the Riviera Country Club. Los Angeles Times reported that the 46-year old golfer is seeking for his first ever tournament win since the year 2009, held his 36-hole lead through shooting 2-under 69 last Saturday. Through the 54 holes, Goosen stands with an 8-under 205, 2 shots better than the known Graham DeLaet.

Three players including Sang-Moon Bae, Sergio Garcia, and Carlos Ortiz are three shots off the lead at 5-under 208. The leaderboard takes pride five players with ten major championships. Goosen is the leader and the remaining four players at 4-under 209 are Angel Cabrera, Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, and Vijay Singh.

According to ESPN, Retief Goosen had gone so far without being in the contention during the weekend, which he wondered how his nerves hold up. He was tested Saturday at the Riviera and the 2-time US Open Champion earned the passing grade. Even if he made only two pars and twice encountered hard putts to save bogey, he still remains the lead. He completed with a chip-in for birdie and has reached the par-five 17th in 2 for another birdie and had the two-under 69 to establish the two-shot lead in Northern Trust Open.

Goosen said that it was not simple out there for him. Mentally, he had to work very hard to stay and try to be positive and focused. However, he is still in the lead so that it is a good spot to be.

Goosen had undergone disk replacement surgery back in 2012 when the protein injections did not work and feared his career could be over. Today, he has the second opportunity. He added that it would be a great win and it is been awhile since he had the chance to win.
