Parmesan.com Launches an April Fool’s Day “Don’t Be Fooled” Campaign

Parmesan.com today launched a “Don’t Be Fooled” campaign to dispel myths about Parmigiano Reggiano® cheese and celebrate its upcoming website launch in May. Parmesan.com is the new English language consumer website for Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, made exclusively in Italy.

To enter the sweepstakes, please visit Parmigiano Reggiano’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/parmesanfans. Participants will watch a 30 second YouTube video and fill out a form to qualify for the sweepstakes. The video portrays a baby, who when shown various types of cheeses, isn’t fooled by the other cheeses. Even a baby knows – and prefers – the only Parmesan.

The sweepstakes is a part of a larger campaign to raise awareness in the U.S. that hard grating cheese which imitates Parmesan is not Parmesan cheese unless it is Parmigiano Reggiano. “Cheese is like wine. It is named after geographic regions and it must be made with local ingredients to be certified,” said Nancy Radke Director of the U.S. Information Office of the Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano-Reggiano. “All the cheese makers in the Parmigiano Reggiano region of Italy united in a consortium in 1934 to set standards for their product. Today in the EU no other cheese can be called Parmesan except Parmigiano Reggiano. Americans are beginning to realize this and are seeking out products from their places of origin,” said Radke. In order to raise awareness and educate the U.S., Parmesan.com released an infographic today on https://visual.ly/dont-be-fooled-tasty-truth-about-parmesan-cheese which shares and dispels the myths surrounding Parmesan cheese.

Parmigiano Reggiano is only crafted in the Italian provinces of Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, and the provinces of Bologna to the west of the Reno River, and Mantua to the east of the Po River. In order for cheese to receive the Parmigiano Reggiano name, it must pass vigorous standards by the Consortium in Italy. When these standards are met, the cheese is stamped with the official Parmigiano Reggiano certification mark.

The website, Parmesan.com, will provide a myriad of resources, games, and tips to help you discover the secret to savory Italian cuisine. Specifically, the website will provide a number of chef-created and user-submitted recipes --from your favorite Italian classics to lesser known recipes that will surprise and delight you, like Parmesan ice cream. There will also be interactive games and historical information that will help you understand the true origin and magnificence of this unique cheese. To learn more, visit Parmesan.com and connect on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube for interactive learning opportunities and inspiration for delicious recipes. This April Fool’s, it is time to no longer be fooled by imitations and begin preparing and enjoying truly delectable Italian meals with the only Parmesan – Parmigiano Reggiano.
