Coconut Oil Combined With Exercise Can Lower BP, New Research Reveals

Coconut Oil is one of the wonder oils that offer plethora of uses. It can be rubbed on your hair and skin, cook with it, massage with it and even add it to make dishes tastier!  A recent research revealed that coconut oil when combined with exercise can potentially lower blood pressure.

The study published in Applied Physiology, Nutrition and Metabolism from the Biotechnology Center at the Federal University of Paraiba, Brazil, has found that exercise and coconut oil combination results to return to normal blood pressure levels in the rat models.

"This is an important finding as coconut oil is currently being considered a popular 'superfood' and it is being consumed by athletes and the general population who seek a healthy lifestyle," explained Dr. Valdir de Andrade Braga, co-author of the coconut oil study said in a statement.

As reported by Gulf News, the experiment was carried out in hypertensive rats. The study has found that combination of coconut oil and exercise had helped the rats to reduce weight as compared to the rats that were not exposed to exercise and were only given saline solution in the five-week study.

Scientists concluded that the reduction in the blood pressure can be rooted from exercise and coconut oil positive effect on the aorta, heart and serum.  

The experimented showed that those rats who were not exposed to exercise and coconut oil have greater oxidative process that means their heart have been working faster, and they age fast due to free radicals, according to Medical Daily.

The challenge now with the group of researchers is to find clinical trials that would verify those findings in hypertensive human beings.

Coconut oil is considered as superfood consumed by a lot of people and athletes who want to have healthy lifestyle change.  Braga revealed that incorporating coconut oil in the diet like adding in smoothie, baking or using it as an ingredient for cooking is a great step for a healthy lifestyle.

After all there are 67 million Americans who are presently suffering from high blood pressure.
