Pork Barrel BBQ Headed to Las Vegas for the Academy of Country Music BBQ Throwdown Championship

Pork Barrel BBQ’s competition barbecue team, the reigning Grand Champion of the Safeway National Barbecue Battle and current Purdue National Chicken Champions, is headed to Las Vegas for the ACM BBQ Throwdown held in conjunction with the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards this weekend, March 29th thru April 1st.

The Pork Barrel BBQ competition barbecue team will kick off the 2012 professional competition barbecue season in Las Vegas with over 100 of the nations top barbecue teams and pitmasters during “T he Week Vegas Goes Country”. Organized by Smoke On The Water Productions, the ACM BBQ Throwdown is one of the world’s richest contest – boasting a $50,000 prize purse and $10,000 award to the contests Grand Champion.

The ACM BBQ Throwdown is part of the ACM Experience, the first-ever, free, open-to-the-public country music lifestyle event created for fans by the Academy of Country Music. The ACM BBQ Throwdown and the activities for the three-day, fan-focused event will be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

“I can think of no better way to start the 2012 competition barbecue season than at the inaugural ACM BBQ Throwdown in Las Vegas where two of America’s favorite pastimes will meet – country music and barbecue,” said Heath Hall, President and co-founder of Pork Barrel BBQ. “We’re looking forward to cooking against some of the best teams in the country. The caliber of teams competing together this early in the season would be like the NFL playing the Super Bowl in September.”

Since Pork Barrel BBQ was founded in 2009, the company has participated in many of the nation’s most prestigious barbecue competitions including the American Royal Invitational, Jack Daniel’s World Championship Invitational, and the Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle. Pitmasters and Pork Barrel BBQ co-founders Hall and Brett Thompson have accumulated multiple awards and top place finishes including winning the Chinet People’s Choice Award for best BBQ sauce, becoming the reigning Perdue National Chicken Champions, and having their BBQ sauce declared one of the “125 Best Foods for Men” by Men’s Health Magazine and Country Living Magazine naming it to their list of “Best Barbecue Sauce in the Country”.
