Selena Gomez is welcoming New Year with rounds of controversies. Recently, "The Heart Wants What It Wants" singer deleted an Instagram photo which shows off her ankle in a pose in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi, which is considered an inappropriate act for the Muslim tradition.

The controversial now-deleted photo was taken down by Selena Gomez after it sparked controversies.

 The first photo with Selena Gomez legs and ankle showing off and the second photo with her group including Kendall Jenner, Cody Simpson, Shay Mitchell, and Gigi Hadid pictured laughing are all forbidden in the mosque and in the Muslim faith.

It seems that Selena Gomez is facing early blows of the year. According to Gossip Cop, Selena Gomez and her group violated the Muslim tradition and the sacredness of the mosque as their group was laughing and displaying skin inside the mosque as caught in Selena Gomez photo.

Selena Gomez earned great slap from commenters who treat the said photos as "disrespectful." Selena Gomez was not the first artist to receive such attention from the media concerning unnecessary behavior inside the mosque.

In 2013, Rihanna was caught on fire and asked to evacuate the mosque after she posed for fashion-shoot style pictures on the floor. Daily Mail reports that mosque visiting rule prohibits all "intimate behaviors" such as kissing and holding hands and women must wear long ankle length skirts.

Aside from the controversial photos of Selena Gomez and friends, the singer is also in a heated love triangle controversy with Justin Bieber and 18-year-old model Hailey Baldwin. While Selena Gomez spent New Year with her friends, Justin Bieber spent New Year's eve with Hailey Baldwin.
