Palestinian Unity Government Visits Gaza Strip To Discuss Rehabilitation Of The Region

High ranking Palestinian official were reported to have travelled from the West Banks with Gaza Strip as their intended destination. The envoy from the Palestinian Authority is said to meet with Hamas officials in hopes of finding a peaceful resolution in the ongoing struggle to unite the two warring factions.

Two Palestinian rival groups, the Fatah and Hamas, have agreed to form a unity government over the Gaza Strip. Unfortunately it has not lived to its purpose of bringing peace and uniting the people of Gaza, instead reports that the group is experiencing internal struggle and is on the verge of crumbling down.

The Palestinian Authority, with its administrative center based in Ramallah, has sent eight ministers and 39 members to Gaza via the Erez crossing. This meeting will be the second time the Palestinian Authority has send envoy to the Gaza Strip in order to unite all the political parties in the area and to bring the administrative control of the Palestinian Authority in Gaza. Many political analysts have criticized the failure of the unity government to instill its authority within Gaza. One prominent problem is its lack of coordination to bring construction materials in order to rebuild the damage the years of war has brought the on the area.

Palestinian Minister of Labor Mamoun Abu Shahla said in an official statement that the top priority on the group's agenda is the rehabilitation and reconstruction of administrative and government structures within Gaza. Labor and employment is also part of the meeting's agenda and the minister have also considered opening the border in order to ease the logistic problems in transferring construction materials to the Strip.

Despite the envoys decent intention in matters of peace and unity, the visit was received by various protests, especially the ones held by thousands who were left homeless due to military operations in Gaza. Additionally, Hamas has also turned down the Palestinian Authority's demands of solely supervising the reconstruction of Gaza, a move that added more tension between the two factions.
