Final Colbert Report Episode: Stephen Colbert Bids Farewell With A Bang … And The Grim Reaper?

The final Colbert Report episode airs tonight, December 18 after nearly a decade airing in Comedy Central - and, as the character "Stephen Colbert" retires from the world of political comment, there's one being that will be taking him along: the last guest of the show, the Grim Reaper.

It's a sad time for comedy, as the world will be saying goodbye to the faux conservative, satirical brand of comedy that has made Stephen Colbert a star - but, as fans expected, the final Colbert Report episode will say farewell to the character with all due respect!

It's no shock to see that the final Colbert Report episode will be a game of remembrance for those who've been loyally watching the show since its release in 2005 - and, of course, after Colbert himself announced he would be "retiring" the character, the choice of inviting the "Grim Reaper" to the next show seems like an obvious one.

According to The New York Times, Colbert's "pompous, deeply ridiculous but consistently appealing" character will be saying good-bye in the best way he'd know how: making a big, ridiculous fuss. As many have wondered how Colbert's brand of comedy would play out in "The Late Show" once David Letterman retires to give him the spot, the magazine accuses the comedian of potential "comicide."

While news outlets like E! Online begin to assume that the final Colbert Report episode set to air tonight, it may have seemed obvious since he announced he wouldn't be taking the character to his new job at CBS.

According to Hypable, other guests on the last few weeks have included President Barack Obama (who even famously took up the role of host for the show's intro) and Seth Rogen, who is in the midst of controversy surrounding his latest film with pal James Franco, "The Interview."

Don't forget to tune in to watch the last Colbert Report episode tonight, on Comedy Central!
