Manchester United, headed by its captain Wayne Rooney, is working like a well-oiled goal-machine. Old Trafford has finally seen some magic. The latest win for the Red Devils can be considered one of their greatest performances in Old Trafford. They have outplayed Liverpool in almost all aspect of football. They have dominated the pitch by commanding a 55% ball possession and delivered three goals courtesy of Rooney, Mata and Van Persie. All these were due to the teams almost perfect attacking mentality.
Liverpool, no matter how much they tried cannot seem to stop the unrelenting attack of the Red Devils. Rooney scored the opening goal in the first 26 minutes of the match with a brilliantly controlled shot that stunned Liverpool's goalkeeper Brad Jones. Juan Mata added a magnificent header on the 40th minute in a widely contested goal. Mata's goal looks like a blatant offside but after reviewing the play, it shows that he was definitely on side. Robin van Persie scored the third goal for Manchester United with just under 20 minutes remaining on regulation. The goal came in the form of a wonderful assist coming from Juan Mata directed to van Persie. The third goal sent the whole Old Trafford into mass jubilation while at the same time adding pressure to Liverpool.
The recent win for Manchester United marked their eighth consecutive winning streak. This puts them directly behind their club rival Manchester City. Manchester United currently sits at the number three spot with 31 points; Manchester City is at number two with 36 points while Chelsea still holds the top spot with 39 points.
