Rectal Feeding Procedure Used By CIA For Torture Purposes: Means Of Behavior Control

Rectal Feeding - A horrible report was released by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about the CIA's methods of torture. One of them was rectal feeding and at the moment it's causing extreme controversy.

Rectal feeding is a procedure used in the past as a medical practice. Today, it's an extreme rarity, though, and it's known to be a "nutrient enema."

Apparently, five detainees were forced the rectal feeding: two of them attempted hunger strikes, one "partially refused liquids," another one "without a determination of medical need" and a last detainee whose case details were not shared.

The CIA agents had considered other methods of force-feeding for the detainees, but none of them had what rectal feeding had: "means of behavior control." Basically, this brings hurt and shame to the detainees and control is easily inflected.

"While IV infusion is safe and effective, we were impressed with the ancillary effectiveness of rectal of ending the water refusal," one medical officer from the CIA said and The Guardian reported.

The report also specified the position in which the detainees were given this "nutrient enema."

"As described in the context of the rectal feeding of al-Nashiri, Ensure was infused into al-Nashiri "in a forward-facing position (Trendlenberg) with head lower than torsom," said the report and Mother Jones shared it.

The reason why the Senate chose to let the public know about these methods of torture by the CIA was to show that "America is big enough to admit when it's wrong," according to ABC News.

The report has 500 pages and in it, rectal feeding is only one of the procedures described and there are multiple others. Among them, there were explicit threats to the families of the detainees; their children mentioned profusely.

President Obama also added some words of opinion and stated that these techniques "did significant damage to America's standing in the world."
