Israel Held Responsible For Airstrikes Launched Near Damascus

Airstrikes were launched on Sunday near Damascus, Syria's capital and SANA, the official news agency of the country, reports Israel is being held responsible over the launched strikes. The strikes have caused damage in the areas hit but no recorded casualties were reported.

SANA's report states that the Syrian military's accusations are saying that the airstrikes targeted two of the safe areas in the capital namely the Dimas area and the Damascus International Airport.

The statement adds that the airstrikes launched further demonstrates the direct involvement of their Israeli enemies in supporting terrorism in their country. Also, Western countries were cited as those who continue to support the terrorists in order to raise their morale. They specifically said that the terrorist group being supported is the Nusra Front.

The paper adds, the general command of the Syrian armed forces stated that the attacks from Isreal was an obvious attack that has caused material damage in the areas hit.

The Israeli government was asked for any comment regarding the accusations but they apparently said that they do not comment on reports from foreign media.

This is not the first time that Israel has allegedly launched and airstrike against Syria as they have reportedly carried out such attacks ever since the civil war started back in 2011. However, Israel never publicly confirmed the allegations.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the airstrikes on Sunday were used for military purposes. The director of the Observatory, Rami Abdel Raman, claims that the attacked areas were military sites and weapons were stored in those areas.

Aside from the allegations, SANA also stated that the Syrian foreign ministry already asked United Nation's General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon and the Security Council to impose some sanctions on Israel due to the alleged attacks. The Syrian government said that the attack was a heinous crime against the sovereignty of their country.
