‘One Direction Bumps’ Taylor Swift From No.1 Spot: Another Feather on Their Crown

"One Direction" has been consistently on the rise as its legions of fans kept on increasing with their attractive members and excellent performance.   After doing well at the American Music Awards just recently, another milestone in their career happened on the Billboard chart this week, with the band's album, "Four," Time reports.

During the opening week, the album sold 387,000 copies, way ahead with that of Taylor Swift who topped the charts for about three weeks, as shown in the records of Nielsen SoundScan.

It's a bit remarkable for One Direction to have their four albums at the top of the chart on its debut.  It rarely happens at Billboard in almost six decades of its existence.

The Band's talent was also recognized during the 28th ARIA Awards on Wednesday night, having been chosen to receive the prestigious award for Best International Artist. Much to their fans delight, Liam Payne and Harry Styles entertained the audience as they perform onstage during the awards night in Sydney, Australia.

On the other hand, Swift's "1989" have sold 1.3 million copies during the early days of this month.  She took her music catalogue out of Spotify, the world's largest streaming platform. She explained that said practice leads to a notable financial decline to the music industry; hence, she has been vocal about her adverse views about steaming platforms, Time revealed.

Fans seldom purchase albums of their favourite performers, and instead watch through You Tube. And Swift attributed the constantly declining figures in digital album sales to streaming services. Her move might frustrate the fans at first, but it will be beneficial in the long run.

Something has to be done for the music industry as Nielsen SoundScan revealed that album sales consistently dropped from 7% in 2013 and approximately 14% in the first half of 2014.
