Reyhaneh Jabbari Story: Iranian Woman Executed Over Murder of Man She Claims Tried To Rape Her; International Petition And Facebook Campaign For Reprieve Ignored

Reyhaneh Jabbari Story - A 26-year-old Iranian interior designer was executed on the early hours of Saturday. She was convicted of murdering a man, whom she claimed attempted to rape her.

Jabbari was put on death row since 2009. A year after, an international petition, which was being supported by Amnesty International and the UN, was launched in hopes of having retrial on the case.

Today, after five years since the petition was started, the retrial was not possible mainly due to the family of Sarbandi, the murdered man. The victim's eldest son refused to give Reyhaneh Jabbari a second chance.

Apparently, the supposed murder of the victim was left on the loop as, even though she and the petition as well, even a Facebook campaign, has stood on her side and her story; Sarbandi's family hasn't believed that the facts were like she stated.

From the story provided by Reyhaneh Jabbari, the murder was not conducted by her but by another man who was at the apartment at the same time. She hasn't provided any names, though, which was the main problem for Sarbandi's son.

"Only when her true intentions are exposed and she tells the truth about her accomplice and what really went down will we be prepared to grant mercy," The Guardian noted.

The petitions got only stronger and current during the last weeks. The Facebook Campaign showed people all over the world reacting to this "act of injustice" and made protests in the streets. There are pictures of Sweden protests, for instance.

As for Amnesty International, they have stated that the investigation contained deep flaws and needed to be revised. They have applied for a retrial since April with no avail.

After it was learned these last few days that the execution would indeed take place, Reyhaneh Jabbari's mother went to visit her on Friday one last time, the Daily Mail reported.

On Facebook, Reyhaneh Jabbari's story came to an end by a follow-up of different posts, citing the petition and showing rage and indignity for the actual fate of the Iranian woman.
