Disney XD Channel has announced that they will be releasing a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' cartoon by 2015, after the new expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was released to great critical acclaim and strong box office numbers: the film made $654.7 million worldwide. The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' cartoon will feature the characters that made audiences around the world fall in love with the lesser-known Marvel classic comic, like Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon and Groot.
The comic the hit blockbuster was based on isn't as traditionally popular as others in the Marvel family, such as classics 'The Amazing Spider-Man' or 'The Incredible Hulk'. Because of this, there has never before been a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' cartoon, a fact that has excited the people at the Marvel Animation Studio, as they look into all the cinematic possibilities of releasing a 'Guardians of the Galaxy' cartoon: it'll certainly be a feast for the eyes, with all the galactic and universe stuff going on. No doubt it will be a truly beautiful animated series!
British-American news website Mashable talks all about the new 'Guardians of the Galaxy' cartoon, even featuring a quote from Jeph Loeb, the head of Marvel Television: "This is a very exciting time for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe by developing the first-ever Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy animated series. After starring in the biggest movie of 2014, everyone wants more of Star-Lord and his crew - now they'll get it."
Like the film before it, the new 'Guardians of the Galaxy' animated series will be part of the grander scheme of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a large project that includes all of the Avengers superheroes films from 'The Incredible Hulk' and 'Iron Man' until 'Iron Man 3' and television show 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'. There will be at least two more 'Avengers' films coming up, and a 'Guardians' sequel in 2017 for those Marvel characters on the other end of the universe.
