Ad Shows Grisly Effects Of Too Much Sugar In The Body

Sometimes, advertisements are taken to an all new level and usually, these are downright horrifying.

Everybody loves sweets, but as they say, too much of something is bad enough. Sugar makes pastries and almost everything in the dinner table taste great, but we do know that it can cause tooth problems and increase the width of your waist. However, the negative effects go beyond being overweight and having a few rotten teeth.

Type 2 diabetes is a serious medical problem while over 29.1 million Americans suffer from Type 1. This proves that America has a rather deadly love affair with sugar and the Sweet Kills aims to be the third wheel. Basically, it is a new awareness campaign that Nattakong Jangsaem, a Thailand-based designer, came up with.

Basically, type 2 diabetes, or hyperglycemia, is a condition wherein blood sugar levels rises higher than normal. This means that the human body won't be able to insulin effectively. This condition is called insulin resistance. The pancreas will first try to produce extra insulin to make up for it, but over time, it will be overcome by the disease until it can no longer keep up.

Though the disease does not appear much on paper, it can lead to numerous complications, such as ulcers and infections. Poor blood circulation is one of its horrific benefits and this then leads to slow down the wound healing process.

Imagine getting a surgery, but you have type 2 diabetes - the would healing will slow down, and it has a high chance of developing infections. Severe infections will then lead to gangrene and in the worst cases, amputations.

The Sweet Kills campaign pictures are straight out of a horror movie and are disturbing. One shows a human elbow with a wound looking like chocolate while another one shows a person's foot infected with strawberry cake.

You have to admit: the effects are horrific and the ad makes you think twice about gorging on a whole tub of ice cream.
