The upcoming Ghostbusters film continues to be a lightning rod for controversy. The new, all-female reboot of the classic 80's franchise has had some run-ins with a very vocal subset of its fan base who are not happy with the film's choice of leads.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones will be donning the iconic boiler suits. The decision was seen by many as a big win for casting diversity in an industry that has a pitiful amount of meaningful roles for women.
It's rare to see a woman get top billing in a blockbuster such as this, so the decision to go all-female was rightfully applauded. Still, detractors remain. Some fans have already written the movie off before a single teaser has even been released all because of the casting choices.
This has irked director Paul Feig, who took to Twitter slamming the haters who are dishing out unsubstantiated criticism towards the film, which is still in its developmental stage .
You all have no idea what we did, so stop acting like you do. Enough is enough. Just let this movie happen. #enough https://t.co/lBZGHaNEbz

Then you should embrace a new generation getting their own version. GB is a positive force. Your negativity isn't. https://t.co/MOKZpLLIBo — Paul Feig (@paulfeig) September 24, 2015
You've been ranting at me and my cast for months with misogyny and insults. So go fuck yourself. Goodnight. #enough https://t.co/r3XNfWP68c

It is regrettable that there are still people that feel this way. But it just goes to show the struggles many actresses in the industry have to put up with. The new Ghostbusters hits theatres in 2016
