The long running saga of Batman Arkham Knight's much maligned PC version looks like it may soon be coming to an end.
The game launched on PC in June is in a near unplayable state with many key graphical features missing, frame rates capped at 30 frames-per-second, and abysmal performance even on the most capable of machines.
This prompted many gamers to voice their outrage at the shoddy work by returning the game using Steam's newly implemented digital refund option. Publisher Warner Bros. responded to the harsh criticism by taking the unprecedented step of pulling Arkham Knight off Steam's marketplace until the game's issues could be resolved.
It looks like that date is finally coming, some 3-4 months after the release date. A mishap on Steam allowed some users to receive a 'beta' version of the huge update that will solve most of the game's problems on PC. The patch was rolled out by mistake and Steam quickly released another update that undid most of the initial releases' changes.
During the short time it was available, users reported that performance on the game improved significantly, with new graphical settings, better performance, and improved frame rates making the game play as it should have at launch. You can see some of the user feedback screengrabbed by Kotaku.
There's no official word on when the patch will finally be rolled out for real but it looks it can't be long now. Neither Warner Bros. nor developer Rocksteddy has said when Arkham Knight will be available for purchase on Steam again, but that date should coincide with the update's release.
It's good that PC players can finally enjoy the game relatively hassle free, but it's a shame it had to take such a huge uproar and amount of time for it to be done.
