A new discovery to help people with celiac disease might be hitting the market soon. A New research shows that people suffering with autoimmune disorder can enjoy gluten food with the help of a supplement.
Researchers from University of Alberta in Canada found out that people with celiac disease can switch to a normal diet by just taking this supplement, the Medical Daily reports.
The supplement was developed by Hoon Sunwoo along with Jeong Sim. Sunwoo, who is an associate professor of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. They created the supplement from chicken egg yolks.
According to a statement released by Hoon, "This protein binds with gluten in the stomach and helps to neutralize it, therefore providing defense to the small intestine, limiting the damage gliadin causes. It is our hope that this supplement will improve the quality of life for those who have celiac disease and gluten intolerance."
Jeong Sim, who is a retired professor from the Faculty of Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences, as well as Sunwoo, are both expected to undergo efficacy trials within a year to prove the effectivity of their new discovery.
If the scientists succeed during the trial, the supplements will be available in the Canadian market within three years.
Vetanda Group is reportedly partnering with the creator of the supplements to produce the supplements.
Claire Perry, spokesperson of Vetanda Group said, "Our groundbreaking new health product has the potential to offer more dietary freedom, and overall, a better quality of life for gluten-intolerant people."
While the new discovery needs to be approved by the health authorities, people with celiac disease, as well people and celebrities, who like gluten free diet, opt for Gluten-free pizzas.
Aside from it being recommended for people with celiac disease, Gluten-free diet claims to be effective in weight loss and can increase energy level.
